Best Studios in Abuja: The Entertainment Clinic

Hey guys! We wanna do something unique today. Let's review one of the best studios in the nation's capital Abuja. It's The Entertainment Clinic which incidentally is an intentional pun since the Creative Director and in-house producer is a medical doctor....yes! For real! Anyways, as far as quality goes, this is a studio with real class, and it boasts an impressive array of equipment.

What services do they offer?
-Production
-Sound engineering: mixing and mastering
-Promotion
-Studio setup and equipment procurement
-Production training
-Sound reinforcement

What do they have?

The Entertainment Clinic

The main mic is a Neumann TLM 102. Handmade in Germany, this is a masterpiece!
The Blue Bottle is another excellent microphone, perfect for smooth, warm naija vocals.

Sound card is the MOTU 828 MK3. Never compromise on a sound card. Always get the best your budget can afford.

Your mix is as good as what your ears can hear. The Clinic features JBL LSR308 monitors...sweet highs, deep bass and clear mids. This is highly recommended...and they really look amazing ;)

Stirring up those creative juices with Native Instrument Maschine. A versatile tool for any serious producer.
The core of the studio is a superb 27-inch Apple iMac system connected to two extra monitor screens. You can have many windows open at the same time...how sweet!

Beats by Dre high definition isolation mixing headphones.

Always good to have a backup mic. This is the sweet-looking retro Shure 55.
The Blue Yeti is a great USB microphone for voiceover work, location recording and even for recording vocals and percussion in the studio
The Avantone mixcubes are the studio's best kept secret...we won't say more.

Talking drum for that naija flavour people always crave...recorded live!

No studio would be complete without a mixer...if not for use at least for looks :) This is a 20 channel Samson mixer
The AKG K712, excellent high end headphones for mixing and mastering on top of the 2015 Macbook Pro Retina
The DBX compressor for a variety of dynamics tasks
Afrobeat will not be complete without live percussion...Shekere!

Silky sounding acoustic guitar

Mic shield to protect from room reverberations and give a cleaner sound.
PreSonus tube preamp for adding a touch (or a splash!) of analogue warmth to your recordings.
4-string bass guitar for adding live bass sound to your Afrobeat and Highlife jams.

Alesis Q25 2-octave midi controller.
M-Audio Oxygen 61 controller and the ultra-special Yamaha DX21 hardware synthesizer

Yamaha PSR keyboard.
Tambourine for adding that live feel to sampled beats.

Extra mic just in case. Great for tracking instruments.
Technically not a studio equipment, we must not forget Donzizi is a medical doctor and can treat you if you collapse from exhaustion in the studio...lol!

Ancient Technics power amplifier for powering the CD speakers.

Regular CD speakers to test how it sounds in regular surroundings. Very important principle in mixing.

Tascam CD recorder for imprinting the final master CD. This can add another level of depth and volume to the finished product.

Never underestimate the power of acoustic room treatment. It is the most powerful determinant of how professional your mixes will sound and how well they will translate to other sound systems. Get a professional to do it for you...putting foam round your studio is not going to do the trick!

Who runs the place?
Donzizi - medical doctor, producer, entrepreneur, writer and video editor

In conclusion
This is a great studio and by Naija standards is really adequate for any production needs (except of course full live band recording). The equipment is excellent and the service is good. Give it a try today. Call Donzizi on 08034431490. Follow him on twitter: @azeezoseni
